PENFOLDS
KOONUNGA HILLS
-- Chardonnay, 1999, Australia
WINEMAKERS NOTES
Color: Pale straw with brilliant green hues.
Nose: Plenty of melon and nectarine fruit characters with some tropical
overtones. A pleasant creamy and butterscotch character and sweet nut
influence adds complexity.
Palate: Full flavored and rich with excellent varietal fruit and perfectly
balanced oak integration. Fruit flavors have been complexed by yeast
contact and creamy malolactic fermentation has given the wine a pleasant
softness and low acid finish.

MATANZAS
CREEK -- Chardonnay, 1998, Sonoma
WINEMAKERS NOTES:
A
glimmering, pale straw gold color delights the eye while aromatic floral
notes join with ripe apple, apricot, citrus and oaken vanilla. Tropical
fruit bursts on the tongue - mango, and papaya, accented with gingery
spice. Barrel fermented and aged seven months sur lies in French oak,
the wine brings toasty oak into harmony with luscious fruit and spice.
Simultaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentations produce a wine with
breadth and texture, but with uncommon balance and elegance. Subtle
butter notes on the nose let the rich fruit show through, while a backbone
of crisp acidity brings all the flavors into focus. Our 1998 Chardonnay
finishes full and creamy and can be expected to age well for several
years.

It is generally medium to full bodied with a characteristic flinty aftertaste.
Chablis usually ages 5 to 8 years. It is excellent served as an aperitif
or with seafood, such as oysters, sea shells (of course !) and fish.

PIGHIN
-- Pinot Grigio, 1999, Italy
TASTING NOTES
This wine tasted of honeydew melon with mineral undertones. It was a
bit heavier or more viscous in the mouth than the Zonin. Tasters thought
it would go well with seafood and pasta with creamy sauces. It tied
for second favorite in the tasting.
